Last day of Purusottam Month
Purushottama Masa (Adhimasa), described by Srila Bhaktivinoda Thakura, is often misunderstood. According to Smarta scriptures, this extra lunar month is considered inauspicious, as it does not fit into the regular cycle of prescribed Vedic rituals. Thus, it has been labeled βMala Masaβ or even neglected entirely.
However, Paramartha scriptures reveal its true glory. Adhimasa is the most exalted month for Hari-bhajana, surpassing even Kartika, Magha, and Vaisakha. It is especially meant for continuous devotion to Sri Sri Radha-Krishna through chanting, worship, and remembrance.
The Naradiya Purana narrates how this neglected month approached Lord Narayana, who brought it before Sri Krishna. Moved with compassion, Krishna named it Purushottama Masa, bestowed His own qualities upon it, and declared it the king of all months. Unlike others that grant material desires, this month grants spiritual perfection and devotion.
Devotees are advised to engage in worship, charity, japa, and hearing Krishna-katha while avoiding mundane talk and criticism. Worship of Radha-Krishna is especially emphasized.
Ultimately, the essence of Purushottama month lies not merely in rituals, but in sincere devotion.
Pure devotees focus on sravana and kirtana, which alone fully satisfy Lord Krishna and lead one toward Goloka.
Hare Krishna Hare Krishna Krishna Krishna Hare Hare
Hare Rama Hare Rama Rama Rama Hare Hare
This chanting awakens our original pure love, freeing us from lust and reconnecting us with eternal bliss in loving service to Krishna.
