So proud of my son Tyler earning his black belt after all these years of training! Now we have not 1 but 2 black belts in the family!! #Repost Earlier this year, I earned my black belt from @aki_miami. My martial arts journey started 9 years ago at the very young age of 3. Many years of consistency, dedication and a lot of hard work later, I achieved my goal in spite of being diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes last year. While struggling to adjust to my new health issues, I pushed through it all and on my 3rd attempt, I became the first Type 1 diabetic to receive a black belt in the long and prestigious history of the school. A huge thanks goes out to all my instructors through the years for imparting me with their knowledge and having belief in me. I especially want to thank my family for their love and support and for motivating me through all the ups and very rough downs. The oft repeated school mantra is to never give up. There were many reasons for me to quit, whether it was failing the tests on previous occasions or letting Diabetes dictate my path in life.
