We handle the following fields: Audio/Video, CCTV Surveillance, Infrastructure Cabling, Networking, Alarm Systems, Access Control, Automation, FIber. All Low voltage technicians are required to possess a basic knowledge and sill set for installation of Low Voltage systems such as security/alarm, surveillance, and audiovisual or multimedia equipment.
This is an ideal job for anyone who enjoys working independently, has in-depth technical knowledge, and strong attention to detail. Low voltage technicians may be required to work evenings and/or weekends to meet the client’s schedule.
A low voltage technician's responsibility depends on the system(s) being installed and whether it is a residential or commercial system. However, there are a few core tasks that all low voltage technicians are required to possess:
Read Blueprints and Plans – The low voltage technician must possess the ability to read drawings, schematics, blueprints, and other visual aids that explain where and how to install each component of a system as designed.
Troubleshooting - When things go wrong with a low-voltage system, the technician must be capable of running diagnostic tests to determine whether there is an issue with the wiring, a component, or if the entire system requires replacement.
Maintain Records - Any install, repair, or update to a system requires the low voltage technicians to make a detailed log of what took place. The customer's name and address, what kind of system they installed, what materials were used, and what user name and password(s) were used, if setup by the technician, for future reference. A detailed inventory of all parts and materials, as well as anything they use and anything they order should also be included. When completing a service call, a list of reported problems or malfunctions will be noted as well as repairs.
Technical Knowledge – Low voltage technicians may specialize in a specific type of system, such as security alarm or audio-visual equipment, but all are required to possess the knowledge and physical ability to install and repair a wide range of systems with in-depth and diverse technical knowledge
Computer skills – Low voltage technicians must possess some computer skill and knowledge to maintain and update customer information, repair logs, inventory, and similar records
Physical endurance – This job requires standing for extended periods, climbing ladders, and occasionally working outside in extreme temperatures. Low voltage technicians must also be able to lift and pull items weighing up to 50 pounds or more.
Safety knowledge – Low voltage technicians must know what protective gear to use and how to work with electricity without putting themselves, or others, at risk or causing a fire or other accident.
Organization and time management – low voltage technicians must be capable of working proficiently with minimal supervision, allowing them to keep up with work and maintenance schedules and make sure their tools and materials are in order
Communication skills – low voltage technicians must be capable of communicating verbally with customers and with colleagues and supervisors.
Personal Hygiene – as a representative of the company, good personal hygiene is required.
