Episode 17: The Power of Mentorship with Brena Nath
Need a helping hand? Have a hand to lend? Seems like you might be in the market for mentorship! We sat down with the effervescent Coloradan power house Brena Nath exploring the potential and impact mentorship or mentoring can bring. Brena had great insight (i.e. you have GOT to utilize her “red, yellow, green card method”) and some excellent strategies for being on the receiving or give side of a mentor. We talk about feedback (maybe even actually liking it), identifying when you need a mentor, and share some fun stories about the people who helped us along the way.

Ever started a new thing and about five minutes in have the uncomfy feeling of “wow this is terrifying?” Us too. All day. Everyday. New is rarely synonymous with safe or predictable. If you’ve started a “new thing” and the dazzle of the unknown is fading, the most important thing you can do is choose to take step number 2, because that leads to 3…4…more. Reminding ourselves that the goal of new things isn’t necessarily to be the best at the gate - it’s to grow it into something meaningful. Growth needs time, so give yourself a break today if your new venture feels a little shambly. Remember why you started, what you want, and take that big breath into your next step. You’ve got this, and your girls at Power Stance are rolling up our sleeves right beside you.

Failure means you’re learning.
You’ve been thinking about it for a while now. There’s something you've always wanted to do: a new direction you want to go, something new you want to try, something totally out of your comfort zone.
It’s always been there in the background of your mind.
But that little voice creeps up: “What if I’m terrible at it? What if I look stupid? What if people laugh at me or think I’m not good enough?”
You'll never know until you try...
Find a bite-sized next step towards your dream and DO IT.
For me (Keren), that step was hitting Publish on our very first “test” episode. We recorded it in Page’s living room at her downtown Dallas apartment, with Apple headphones that kept getting caught in our hair, using the Voice Memo app on our phones. I booted up GarageBand and did a really rough editing job without noise cleanup or properly mixing the audio because I had no idea what any of that was. Yes, we wanted to improve the quality and content. But we had to start somewhere.
And you know what? I survived. We kept going. We found better equipment & software and learned new techniques. And everything I wish I could have done better whenever we put out an episode means I try to apply it to the next one.
Fail forward, friends.
What’s that one thing you’ve been thinking about for a while now? What’s holding you back?
