In today’s ‘Global Spotlight’ we’re headed to South Africa!

Recently, the Free State College of Emergency Care (COEC), in partnership with American Heart Association, officially launched a two-month pilot study on the innovative HeartCode© Complete Solution.

This groundbreaking initiative will strengthen adult, pediatric, and infant resuscitation training and skills development for emergency care personnel in the Free State.

The leadership at the Department of Health remains committed to improving emergency care skills, especially in rural healthcare settings, while expanding advanced training opportunities through local and international partnerships.

The CDC reports that the United States experiences an average of 11 fatal drownings per day and an average of 22 non-fatal drownings per day. Additionally, nearly 40% of drownings treated in emergency departments require hospitalization, transfer to a higher level of care, or long-term care due to drowning-related injuries.

Summer is all about making memories by the water, but it’s also a time when drowning incidents increase. Knowing CPR can make the difference between life and death in an emergency.

When drowning occurs, every second counts. Being prepared with CPR skills can help save a life while waiting for emergency responders to arrive.

As you head to the pool, beach, lake, or river this summer, take a few minutes to refresh your lifesaving skills and learn what to do in a drowning emergency.
