Iran is the scene of an organized, state-led massacre. In recent days, government forces have carried out widespread killings of unarmed civilians. The dead have been collected in large numbers, and morgues and body storage facilities are filled with corpses that remain unidentified. Families are searching for their loved ones without lists, without answers, without access to information. Many have been forced to open body bags one by one, searching in the hope of identifying the mutilated remains of their relatives. Families are required to pay for the ammunition used to kill their loved ones in order to receive the bodies. Many of the wounded were taken from hospitals and killed. Communications have been cut. Internet access is unavailable. At present, there are no verified figures for the number of those killed, disappeared, or detained. The true scale of the catastrophe remains concealed. Hundreds of thousands have been arrested, and their fate is unknown. What is unfolding is not a political conflict or internal unrest.
