How many times have I looked at something and said, “Pfft, I can do this too!”, but when time came for me to actually make something, my mind draws a blank or I realize I lack the skills, resources, and commitment to execute? It’s easy to imitate, or even reverse engineer. It’s coming up with an original idea then following through that is hard.

Well, there ARE design contests, which I’ve lost plenty of… but I do believe that everyone is an artist and every artist has an audience. It just takes time and intention to find and be found.

So… I went back to part-time legal practice two weeks ago… and had barely received my paycheck when I spent it all on this brilliant triptych by Aaron Jackson Bowman titled, “sometimes she answers the phone.” That’s unlike me, but love makes you do crazy things, and my heart still swells each time I look at it. 💗💗 Although I fancy myself a wordsmith, words fail to explain the genius that I see, just as this photo fails to capture the artistry that’s been poured into the creation of this work. Maybe it’s the drama in the tossed phone, the suspense in the shadows, the striking color palette, and the strategic layering of acrylic, oil, and pastels. Or maybe it’s the precise and dynamic line work, or the paradigm-shifting rotary phone that not only brings the art to life, but hangs unhooked, opening the narrative to a million possibilities. Whatever it is, these three panels tell a fantastical tale that begs savoring, and savor it I will. 🤤
