Every few years, education seems to discover a "new" trend.
Student-centred learning.
Inquiry.
Personalised learning.
Project-based learning.
Intrinsic motivation.
Yet many of these ideas aren't new at all. Long before neuroscience became popular, educators were already asking a simple question:
What happens when we design learning around the learner instead of around the content?
That question is becoming even more relevant today.
Our students have unlimited access to information. They don't need us to be the source of knowledge anymore. They need us to design experiences that make knowledge meaningful.
That's much harder.
It requires us to think beyond worksheets, textbooks and pacing guides. It asks us to become designers of learning rather than deliverers of content.
Reading educational thinkers from a century ago doesn't mean copying everything they proposed. It means recognising that some questions are timeless—and perhaps we've never completely answered them.
Which educational thinker has changed the way you teach?
📚 Have you ever redesigned a lesson around your students' interests? Did you notice a difference in their engagement?
I'd love to hear your experience.
