We'd like to give a special thanks to the Dallas Police Department and Sgt. Munoz for helping coordinate a personal tour of the Jack Evans Police Headquarters.
We enjoyed a close up learning experience of the many departments and investigation units: Homicide, Forensics, Crimes Against Persons, etc. and touring the museum of historical artifacts that showcased history of the DPD. Thank you, National Latino Law Enforcement Organization, Senior Corporal Paul Schuster, Sgt. Aranda, Major Ruben Ramirez, Chief Albert Martinez, Jose De La Rocha—We were very fortunate to hear stories from these police officers and many others and we thank every one of them for taking time out of their day for us.
They taught us the importance of connecting and building relationships with the community. We learned first hand from officers what it means to work in law enforcement and how having heart, passion for community and keeping educated are keys to making real change.
Senior Corporal Amber Roman, LGBTQ+ Liaison & Community Engagement Officer for the Office of community affairs left us with incredible advice to act on "...Be about some sort of change: protest, join an organization, become a policy maker-find your passion and you can do anything, find your passion and the rest will work itself out."
*Stay tuned for more past weekend coverage!*
