The importance of good employer/employee communication has never been so obvious as it is right now, as we continue to navigate the pandemic, not to mention the Great Resignation.

Employees are looking for companies that foster effective feedback, openness, transparency, and flatter hierarchy.

It’s more than just sending out occasional “How are we doing?” surveys and conducting all-hands meetings. Employers have to create what Deloitte calls “listening channels” that give and get insight into sentiments, needs, opinions, experiences, and outcomes of employees.

At Deloitte, in fact, when it came time to figure out the return-to-work policies after stay-at-home orders were lifted last year, the company involved all of its employees in a series of “huddles,” some of which took place in live meetings, and others in asynchronous chat format on a social platform. By paying attention to what people were saying, leadership at Deloitte could design the return-to-work policies around the experiences and desires of real employees.

This sort of approach to open communication works in a lot of situations, not just pandemic moments. The candidates I work with at infinity CXC are not alone in seeking out employers that value their input.
