Adat Shalom 7.3.26
" The Testing of the Messiah" Mark 12:13-27
Plus a special 4th of July Exhortation

Last week we studied Messiah's teaching on the "Parable of the Wicked Vine-growers" (12:1-12). This parable depicted Israel's unfortunate history of rejecting and persecuting many of her prophets, and the message they were sent by God to bring. The parable was aimed at Israel's present leaders, who were in danger of following in the footsteps of their ancestors with their rejection of the Messiah and their plot to destroy Him (11:18). This week we are going to continue our teaching series in the gospel of Mark, with Messiah continuing to teach in Jerusalem. There He would face further confrontations with the religious leaders. Our message will focus on two questions posed to Jesus by the leaders. In an attempt to "trap" Him with His words, the Pharisees and Herodians posed a question on whether it would be lawful to pay a census tax to Caesar (12:13-17). Later a second question would be asked by the Sadducees having to do with the law of "levirate" marriage (Deut. 25:5-10) and the resurrection (12:18-27). These questions were meant not for the purpose of honest inquiry, but that they might have that by which they could accuse Jesus. However, the Messiah would turn the tables on them and their schemes with His answers. If you would like to hear His response to their questions, come join us this Friday evening for Shabbat services beginning at 7:30 P.M. We will have exciting worship, our weekly Torah devotional, our message in Mark, and a brief special exhortation in honor of our nation's 250th Independence day. At the close of our service we will have warm food and fellowship for our weekly Oneg. So come join us for a full evening. Hope to see you there.

Adat Shalom 6.5.26
"Messiah's Teaching on the Power of Faith and His Authority"
Mark 11:20-33

Last week we resumed our teaching series in the gospel of Mark. We are in the last main section of the book titled, "The Sacrifice of the Servant," which covers the last week of Jesus' ministry before His death and resurrection (11:1-16:20). In our last message we covered two events, Jesus' cursing of the fruitless fig tree, and the cleansing of the temple. When Jesus saw that the temple court was being profaned, He drove out those who were buying and selling, and the moneychangers who were making the House of Prayer into a place for cheating and thievery (11:!5-17). This week's message picks up on the next day (Tuesday) with Peter making a comment on how the fig tree that Jesus cursed had "withered" from the roots up (11:20-21). At this comment Jesus looks up to the mountain (Mount of Olives) and declares that if one believes, and does not doubt, he could say to this mountain "be taken up and cast into the sea," and it will be done. Once again, He teaches them that prayers said in true faith and belief are powerful, and can even "move mountains (11:22-24)." The Messiah also exhorted them to pray having a heart of forgiveness towards those who have transgressed against them (11:25-26). This chapter closes with the religious leaders questioning Jesus regarding His authority to teach and minister. Messiah answered them with a question, which if they answered truthfully, would have affirmed His authority. What a great way to close this chapter. In our personal application, we will be talking about prayer that moves mountains. So come join us this Friday for Shabbat Services beginning at 7:30 P.M. We will have lively worship, a special Torah devotional, our message in Mark, and warm food and fellowship at the close of our services. So come join us for a great time of worship, the word of God, and fellowship. See you there.
