At SIL, we see another kind of global team—local communities, churches, linguists, educators, and partners working together so people can flourish through language!

The Ebola outbreak affecting parts of the Democratic Republic of Congo touches our SIL family directly. Our colleagues in the Eastern Congo Group are navigating significant challenges as the virus spreads through their communities and with proximity to the workplaces.

For many of our staff in the region, the crisis touches them personally. Some have experienced losses within their families. Others are managing the stress of daily exposure and the weight of workplace instability. Many are wrestling with the fear that comes with being in an affected area.

At the same time, they continue their work with remarkable dedication, even as workplaces adapt their operations and staff members request time to care for loved ones and themselves.

This is a time when difficulty is real, widespread, and prolonged. We recognize that many staff members across Eastern Congo and beyond are carrying similar burdens.

Please pray with us as we hold our colleagues in prayer:
🙏 Pray for peace from the Lord for all our personnel and the displaced people affected by the outbreak.
🙏 Pray for wisdom to keep work morale high. The Eastern Congo Group has weathered insecurity, economic hardship, and now the Ebola epidemic. May God strengthen their resilience and help them continue their work faithfully despite the accumulated weight of these crises.
🙏 Pray for miraculous divine intervention in the crisis. We ask God to act in ways that only He can.

From everyday health concerns to infectious disease outbreaks like Ebola, access to clear, culturally relevant information helps communities make informed decisions that protect lives.

Yet nearly 30% of the world's population still cannot access health information in their local language.

We're grateful for opportunities like the recent Christian Connections for International Health - CCIH regional meeting, where SIL Philippines represented SIL and shared how language development contributes to healthier, more resilient communities.
