Dallas property tax update for seniors π
This year, the City is holding the over-65 and disabled exemption steady at $175,000. No increase for 2026 as the city works through a tighter budget, but the relief itself isn't going anywhere.
Here's what that $175K still does for you π₯
It comes off the city portion of your taxable value. Combined with the 20% homestead exemption, homeowners with homes valued at $218,750 or less pay no city property taxes at all.
The catch? A lot of people who qualify never file for it.

π The corner of Preston & Royal is in the headlines. An $800M mixed-use plan with a hotel, condos, and restaurants wants in, and neighbors are pushing back on the height.
Why the passion? Because Preston Hollow isn't just another zip code. Tree-lined streets, real architectural character, one of the most established luxury pockets in Dallas. People here care deeply about what goes up next door.
That's not a knock on growth. It's a sign of how much this neighborhood is worth protecting π₯
The project still has to clear the City Plan Commission and City Council, so the story isn't over.
Curious what your home is worth in a neighborhood this in-demand? Let's talk β
