PFAA Artist of the Month for June
Dr. Tess Spivey is highlighted as "Artist of the Month” for June by Paulding Fine Arts Association at the Vintage Wine Bar in downtown Dallas, Ga, on June Fri, June 27 and Sat. June 28,5-8PM.
Ignorance is expensive” is the phrase that has fueled Dr. Tess Spivey’s love for learning and creating. Tess, who came from humble beginnings in Alabama, was inspired to find purpose in art education from an elementary music teacher, and after relocating to Florida during high school she went on to major in Art Education, matriculating through the University of Florida and Florida State University systems.
While teaching high school, she completed her Master's degree research, which had an Art Therapy emphasis. Tess moved to Georgia, where she taught middle school and elementary-aged students, and earned her Educational Leadership credentials from Kennesaw State University. Tess then moved to North Carolina to work as a director for five years while completing her Specialist degree, but she missed working directly with her students. Dr. Spivey’s community service and grant writing ventures included components that connected to creating positive images or artistry,
Her passion for working with students rekindled when she returned to Georgia to live closer to family and friends. Additionally, she began hosting local art exhibitions, mentoring creative adults, and earning a Doctorate. Now, Dr. Spivey aims to be the art educator she wished she had in her formative years and supply beauty and distinction in this complex world with positive images and artworks through her small business, Images and Artistry.
