Trees function as green infrastructure systems that deliver quantifiable environmental services on a large scale.

Unlike traditional grey infrastructure, trees perform multiple roles: reducing surface temperatures, intercepting stormwater to reduce runoff, improving air quality through pollutant sequestration, and supporting biodiversity within urban ecosystems.

When integrated into city planning, trees can work in parallel — providing cost-effective, regenerative benefits over time.

Skip the traffic. Feel the breeze.

This National Bike to Work Day, we’re celebrating the simple joy of riding to work--and the role trees play in making that ride cooler, safer, and more comfortable.

Tree-lined streets don’t just make a ride prettier--they can actually feel safer. Studies show that drivers tend to slow down on streets with trees, and people are more likely to walk, bike, and spend time outside.

More shade = better rides
More trees = healthier, safer communities
Whether you’re a daily rider or just giving it a try today, every mile counts.

We’re excited to bring new life and lasting shade to Dallas Housing Authority Buckeye Trail Commons in City Council District 7! Through the USDA Forest Service and the South Dallas Greening Initiative, this planting is about more than trees — it’s about investing in the health, comfort, and future of South Dallas families.
Together, we’re expanding canopy where it matters most. These new trees will help cool homes during those long Texas summers, improve air quality along neighborhood corridors, reduce stormwater runoff, and create welcoming green spaces where residents can gather, kids can play, and neighbors can connect.
Thank you to every volunteer and partner who continues to show up and show out for this community. Your commitment is helping turn everyday spaces into greener, healthier places to live. 🌱
As District 7 continues to grow and thrive, this canopy will grow with it — supporting stronger blocks, brighter mornings on the trail, and more comfortable afternoons right outside residents’ front doors.
South Dallas is getting greener — one planting at a time. 💚
