Some people would say I lost my crown 👑.
As a black woman I am taught to treasure my hair and utilize it as part of my identity. Such a fickle feature is strong determinant in how people perceive me, receive me, and classify me overall...
Ain’t that sad? 😕
Well to all of those who believe such, and to those that tell me I’m beautiful all of a sudden when they really just think I’m crazy/brave.
I lost my “crown” but I gained a face. I now see me. Free of (one of) the barriers that society puts on us WOC. I look in the mirror and I see Gabrielle, and not the multiple characters and personalities my varying hairstyles give me.
I’m not advocating for everyone to go and shave their heads oh! Ohhhhhh! Lol
But do yourself some justice and really ask if you’d be able to know yourself without some of these things? It started with makeup, and my dramatic ass had to pull an Okoye😂🙈.
The moral of the story is love y’all ❤️
