A simple AUDITION tip for young singers that will keep every one in the room happy and connected.

When you don’t have the luxury of singing on a stage and need to sing in a small room or rehearsal room, use that crook to help you “find your light!” It will keep you far back away enough from the panel that we can enjoy your full voice and the sound in the room and not make us too uncomfortable hearing all of that sound too close up!

It all keeps you closer to your pianist, who you might not know, so that you can have contact and collaborate!

One of the biggest mistakes I see young opera singers make is going too far with the acting, when the technique isn’t there just yet to support it.

More movement doesn’t = More Drama.

If your acting is frantic and high, your vocal production will also be frantic and high.

Do your research. Decide what your character actually wants in a scene, and how they are going to get it. Create a clear path to the goal. Make a strong choice.

The technique will follow suit. The more firm the choice in how you want to tell your story, the more settled your technique will be in that choice.
