I am exhausted trying to explain the difference between Foster Care and Adoption!! Please people, listen carefully:

Safe Haven surrendered infants do not ever "sit in the system", the parental rights are terminated by the state between 30 and 90 days. The only way that would not be the case, is if one of the biological parents (mother or father), not grandparent, aunt etc, came back and requested custody. Again.. NO child sits in the system unless a parent does not voluntarily relinquish their parental rights. It is SO important we understand this. Children are "in the system" because their biological parents KEEP THEM THERE. Infants that are adopted, are not IN THE SYSTEM after the parents voluntarily relinquish their rights to the adoptive family. I was ADOPTED, not "in the system". Adoption is NOT Foster Care.

A newborn baby was abandoned in Stafford County, Virginia earlier this week. The police investigated, asked for publics help, located the mother and they are not charging her. Infant abandonment is illegal, mothers could be charged, but clearly our justice system can do it's job. I am not here to debate whether the this mother should have been charged, what needs to be clearly understood is that we do NOT need to make abandoning an infant legal, or give immunity to ALL mothers who abandon their newborn to prevent women from being prosecuted. Please tell me you understand this before you start labeling those of us who want abortion criminalized as hating women!!!
