🍀 Happy St. Patrick’s Day! 🍀

One of the most iconic St. Patrick's Day traditions in the U.S. happens right in Chicago – the famous Green Chicago River! 🌊💚

This vibrant tradition started back in 1962, thanks to the Plumbers Local 110 union. They found a dye used to trace leaks in plumbing systems and decided to have a little fun by dyeing the river green for St. Patrick’s Day. Fast forward to today, and it’s a must-see event that draws thousands of people to the city every year!

Here's the backstory on how it all started:

1️⃣ The Idea (1961): Stephen M. Bailey, a plumber, had the brilliant idea of using plumbing dye to turn the river green. 2️⃣ First Attempt (1962): The first attempt wasn’t perfect, but the river turned a vibrant shade of green that lasted for hours, leaving crowds in awe! 3️⃣ Success & Growth: By the following year, the process was perfected. The dye became even more concentrated, and the tradition exploded into a major annual event! 4️⃣ Environmental Efforts: Don’t worry! The dye used today is environmentally safe, and it disappears within hours, so the river remains just as beautiful as ever. 5️⃣ The Event Today: Now, the river is dyed emerald green each year on St. Patrick’s Day weekend (usually the Saturday before). It’s a celebration of Chicago’s Irish roots and a big part of the city’s festive spirit. 🎉🍀
