Serving vs Volunteering🙌🏻

Most churches talk about volunteering. But what we’re actually inviting people into is servant leadership. Here’s the difference—and why it changes everything: 1) “Volunteer” fills a gap It’s transactional: we need help → you have time → thanks. You can volunteer anywhere. 2) “Serve” activates a calling Serving isn’t using people as tools to accomplish the mission. People are the mission. So the goal of serving isn’t staffing… it’s formation: • helping someone discover how God wired them • developing their gifts in the house • giving them a place to grow in faith through responsibility 3) Your serve system is discipleship If serving feels random, people treat it as optional. But when people see “this is why God put me on the earth,” it hits different. Practical upgrade for this Sunday Stop recruiting to needs. Start inviting to purpose: • “We need 4 greeters” → “You have a gift for people—let’s develop it.” • “We need kids help” → “You can shape the next generation.” • “We need production” → “You can build an environment for encounter.” Serving isn’t a gap-fill. It’s a calling factory.
