This Disability Pride Month, we're recognizing Judith Heumann and her lasting impact on the disability rights movement.

After being denied a teaching license because she used a wheelchair, Judith fought back against discrimination and became the first wheelchair user to teach in New York City's public school system. She also helped lead the historic 1977 Section 504 protests, which resulted in the enforcement of key disability rights protections and marked a major step forward for accessibility and equal opportunity.

Her work reminds us that progress is made when barriers to participation are removed. That includes ensuring everyone has the opportunity to make their voice heard, including at the ballot box. History isn't just something we look back on it's being made every day through the actions we take to build more accessible and inclusive communities.
