Meet Pamela Barnes, Army Veteran and Operations Control Specialist

Pamela Barnes, Operations Control Specialist at Apex Fintech Solutions, is proud to be a veteran of the United States Army. Today, we’d like to honor and thank her for her service to our country.

Pamela grew up in Savannah, Georgia, with a brother and sister. Her family had experienced an unspeakable tragedy when her father, a Sergeant First Class in the U.S. Army, was brutally murdered on active duty, just weeks before his retirement. Pamela, determined to get away from her childhood environment, decided to join the military and enlisted almost immediately after graduating from high school.

“My initial basic training was held at Fort Dix, New Jersey,” she says. “From there, I was sent to Fort Benjamin Harrison, Indiana, for Advanced Individual Training. My MOS — Military Occupational Specialty — was 75C10, Personnel Management Specialist.” Pamela completed this training and was transitioned to her permanent duty station at Fort Carson, Colorado, in the
4th PSC Echo Company 1-26, 2nd Platoon, where she remained throughout the end of her service.

In her role as a Personnel Management Specialist, Pamela was responsible for preparing orders for the soldiers and officers that were transitioning out to their next duty stations. She managed many details, including family travel for officers, that made their moves go more smoothly.

“During this time,” Pamela recalls, “the first Gulf War happened. And our unit came down on orders to go overseas and join the war.” Pamela suddenly realized that she was in the military for real. “I was looking for a way out of the situation I was in as a teenager, but didn’t realize until this moment what I had gotten myself into.”

Pamela’s fears of being sent to war in the Gulf region never came true, though, because a different front-line unit ended up being deployed instead. “I don’t have a lot of glamorous or heroic stories from my military career,” she says, “but it was definitely an experience that I do not regret, and I am thankful to have served during the time I did.”

As her military career was coming to an end, Pamela considered attending Officer Candidate School to become a Registered Nurse. But at that time she had a young baby to care for, and she chose not to reenlist.

Today, Pamela has no regrets. “I am happily married to my wonderful husband,” she says,”and a mother of one handsome son, and grandmother of one beautiful granddaughter.” She smiles broadly as she thinks about her family. “I am living a very blessed life, and I am grateful to my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.”
