As many of you know, Cinde and I have been teaching magic to kids through The Dallas Magic Academy. Over the years, I have had many people say that they wish we could put together a class for adults so they could amaze their grand kids. How many of you would like to take a class like this? The magic would incorporate everyday objects like cards, coins, toothpicks, straws or even a coffee mug. Would you like for me to put together The Amazing Grand Pa Workshop? (Of course we would be open to Moms, Dads, Grandmas and even Aunts & Uncles too).

It hhas now been 10 years since Eric Hogue and I, worked with Representative Pete Sessions and his staff to have magic recognized as an art. This process took almost 2 years of meetings with Representative Sessions and his staff to create this simple document that now resides in the Library of Congress.

Recognition was the first step towards having the United States Government understand that magic is as much of an art as painting, sculpture, music, theater or film making. Even mimes are considered artists.

Traditionally, the second step would be passing a resolution in the House of Representatives, having that resolution ratified by the Senate and then finally signed by the President. This could help magicians protect their intellectual property and it would help magicians to obtain grants for artistic endeavors.

Unfortunately, that process is stalled, partly because of a change in the House Rules and partly because of the division in Washington.

We can still use the Recognition Document of 2014 to try to convince grant writers to consider magic as an art (and in fact, many people have successfully done that).
