In loving memory of Anita N. Martinez: The Honorable Anita N. Martinez was a pioneering Dallas civic leader and trailblazer. She was the first Mexican-American, as well as the first Hispanic woman, elected to the Dallas City Council in 1969. A tireless advocate for West Dallas and "Little Mexico," she secured key infrastructure improvements and founded the Anita N. Martinez Ballet Folklorico to promote cultural pride. All that, and more, she was a longstanding friend and supporter of LBU Community Clinic (Los Barrios Unidos) and LBU's CEO, Leonor Marquez. Our condolences go out to the Honorable Anita N. Martinez's family. Rest in peace, dear Anita, the LBU family will miss you.
