This lightning bolt over the ocean Sunday was stunning, but it’s the story behind that flash that brought tears to my eyes.

This incredible photo was captured by Jennifer Thompson. To her, this wasn’t just lightning — it was a sign from her beloved son, Jace, who passed away from pediatric cancer at just 5 years old, only 347 days after his diagnosis.

Jennifer and her husband Eric often find signs of Jace all around them. They believe this powerful bolt from the heavens was his way of saying, “I’m here. I see you, Mommy and Daddy.”

According to Jennifer, Jace was truly the best — a little boy who loved the beach and the outdoors. So it’s only fitting that he would make his presence known through the beauty and awe of nature’s fury.

RIP Jace. God bless you Jennifer and Eric.
