Michelle Singletary brilliantly explains to us how this idea of credit being equal for everyone is nothing more than a myth. At Darby we thrive to make this a reality and we hope we can inspire more people to take this leap and make a change.

Perspective | Credit scores are supposed to be race-neutral. That’s impossible. The legacy of slavery endures, and Blacks must make extraordinary efforts to overcome the discrimination that is often hidden in policies or, in the case of credit scoring, products that purport to be race-neutral.

This weekend we celebrate both Juneteenth and Fathers Day.
Many of us have been taught that June 19th celebrates the day when enslaved people in Texas learned of their emancipation in 1863. This narrative perpetuates the idea that African Americans waited passively on their emancipation.

Hari Jones reminds us:
“Americans, especially Americans of African descent, should not celebrate when the enslaved were freed by someone else, because that’s not the accurate story. They should celebrate when the enslaved freed themselves, by saving the Union.”

None of us are passive players on our road to empowerment. We do not need to let our peers, or those in power rewrite our narratives. This weekend and every weekend we celebrate the brilliance of our ancestors and all generations to come!
