Real Talk. Real Life. Real Growth.

Yesterday was one of those cloud nine kind of days.

I spent the majority of the day in a rare, uninterrupted training session with one of my sales team members. She’s a seasoned pro and incredibly coachable, a powerful combo. She came to the table already knowing what she wanted to improve, and we dug in together.

Watching the lightbulbs go off… that click moment where confidence and clarity meet, that’s why I do what I do.

These are what I call my GET TO moments.

I get to coach.
I get to pour into someone who’s hungry to grow.
I get to use the skills I love most.

And I know you have those moments too, the ones that remind you why you’re in the role you’re in. The spark that hooked you, and the feeling that keeps you coming back.

But let’s be honest, we’ve all got HAVE TOs, too.

For me, it’s:
• Long meetings
• Expense reports, time cards, admin work in general
• Staring at data or maps for hours (hello flashbacks from my land days)

They’re parts of my job that I can do and will do well… but I don’t love them.

And that’s okay. It doesn’t mean I quit. It just means I stay aware.

Here’s my rule for avoiding burnout:
Make sure your week has more GET TOs than HAVE TOs.

And one more pro tip?

👉 Don’t avoid the HAVE TOs, neglecting them is a fast track to losing the privilege of the GET TOs.

Curious, what are your GET TO moments?

Let’s hear them 👇

20 Years Ago I stepped in my Summer Sales Internship with a national homebuilder. That internship turned into a full time sales assistant position while I finished up school. When nearing graduation I applied to become a New Home Sales Representative. I thought the job was mine. I had been there for a year and a half. I was helping get sales. My peers were telling me I would be great.

I interviewed.

I didn't get the job.

I was pi**ed. I thought the job was mine. I thought I deserved it. But instead of being presented with a job offer, I was presented with a big ole' slice of HUMBLE PIE.

I had a fire in my belly. Why not me? What did I do wrong?

That desire to "prove them wrong" was really me realizing I didn't deserve it, I had to earn it.

So I took a step back, ate the humble pie, asked for feedback and a second interview.

I got reference letters from my peers. I practiced interview questions again. I took the entitlement chip off my shoulder and I was graciously offered a second interview. And I got the job!

It was a sales job and I failed to sell myself in that first interview becuase I thought it was guaranteed. Nothing in life is guaranteed. As my ECON professor used to say - "There is no such thing as a FREE LUNCH"

Here is what some hindsight taught me about this experience.

Sometimes we need to eat the humble pie, it feeds our growth.

Maybe you have been faced with a roadblock, a NO, or a fork in the road. Maybe it feels a little humbling.

Maybe you are saying things like.

"Why is this happening to me?"

"Forget them!"

"WTF!!!!"

"Am I not capable?"

Instead of throwing in the towel, lashing out, or doubting yourself...

Pull up a chair, sit down, and take a bite of that humble pie.

There is a lesson in the NO.

There is growth in those moments IF you are willing to take the bite.
