What should we all play while hunkered down at home?

A wedding shot from four years ago, as of today! Is there a couple you know who could use some extra fanfare on their special day? You know who to call!

New year. New business. New music! Our winter hiatus is over. Tell us how you want to hear brass this year!
(Hint: act fast if you want some New Orleans flavor for Fat Tuesday!)

And now for our lead trumpet player, or maybe the forehead vein that becomes his partner in crime above high C! Tim Goforth is looking for flexibility and efficiency this year. It’s always nice to hear something so rational from the guy playing the high notes…until you realize that’s also how you make it easier to play even higher. Upward and onward in 2026! Seriously, though, we could all stand to be a little more flexible sometimes.
Do you have a high range goal for 2026? High C? Double G? Let’s go!

Well, we had to get to the trumpets at some point. David Brewer always has at least one ridiculous joke ready to go, but this year he wants to be more deliberate about his music making. In addition to thinking about what’s coming out of his horn or guitar, this also means getting some ideas out of his head and on to paper. Could we hear some arrangements or original David Brewer compositions in 2026? We’ll see!
Anyone else out there moving music from their brains to paper? We’d love to read new brass music if you have it!

It’s time to hear from horn player David Mickus! Three resolutions for the third post in this series. First, David resolves, as he did in 2025, not to buy any new horn mouthpieces. Second, he wants to see if he can trick a few more folks into letting him wave a stick while other people play the instruments. Third, he wants to find a better way to remind people which instrument the French horn is - “the round one that points the wrong way” and “the one you put your hand in while you play” are getting old.
Can you help David out this year? Are you hiring for random one-off conducting gigs? Do you know how to describe the horn in a new and exciting way? Comment here!!!

Moving on up the group, Wes Broome asked Santa to come back to help with his resolutions, but apparently the reindeer had already left for vacation! Wes wants to continue expanding his upper register and lock in a bigger orchestral forte (go figure - the trombone player wants to play louder…). He may even limit his complaining about playing lead in pop tunes in party band sets, but that’s TBD.
Hey you out there, how’s your orchestral forte? What do you want to play or listen to this year? What do you hope to hear and see from us???
