How many of you have set New Year's diet resolutions? Please don't! The word diet brings up feelings of deprivation. Instead, make it your resolution to eat more foods that power your athletic body and make you feel good! Instead of categorizing foods in terms of "good" vs. "bad", categorize them as power foods (lean proteins, healthy fats, fruits and vegetables, whole grains and other whole food carbohydrate choices) and fun foods (all of the other tasty stuff). Don't completely eliminate fun foods. Instead, when you are hungry choose power foods first. Then if you still have room, eat a small portion of a fun food. Make it your goal to eat 80-90% power foods and 10-20% fun foods on a daily basis. You'll find that your energy level increases, your body composition starts to find its ideal state (different for every person) and you are able to live life to your potential.
