Have you ever noticed the colorful Unitrans bus and wondered why it isn’t red? 🎨🚌

It’s called the Moo-vin’ Moo-seum, and it might be one of the coolest things rolling around Davis.

Sure, riding a regular Unitrans bus is great, but imagine waiting at your stop and realizing this is the one pulling up.

The inside is filled with rotating art exhibits that give local artists and students a chance to share their work with the community. In these photos, the installation is called Moo-vement For Improvement, featuring student artwork inspired by native species and sustainability.

The bus is just one part of the project, though.

The Moo-vin’ Moo-seum is ASUCD Unitrans’ way of bringing art into public transportation and out into the community. Over the past year they’ve hosted live Moo-sic at the terminals, provided rides to an Art Jam at the Manetti Shrem Museum, and partnered with local elementary schools to decorate bus terminals with student artwork.

If this isn’t one of the most Davis ideas ever, we don’t know what is.

They’re also always looking for new community partners and collaborators. If you have an idea, you can reach out!

Have you been lucky enough to ride the Moo-vin’ Moo-seum yet? 👀

…from the construction to the nightlife there is so much to uncover.

We wouldn’t have it any other way though.

Tips to get the MOST from Davis, CA 👇

Nobody warned us that a college town could be this fun

Seriously. We thought we’d be here for the university. We stayed because of... well... everything else.

A few Davis pro tips if you’re new around here or are just looking for a reminder:

1) Ride your bike whenever you can. It’s usually the fastest way to get around.

2) Learn the greenbelts. They’re one of the best parts of the city and make getting around way more fun.

3) Don’t avoid downtown during the summer. It’s actually one of the best times to go.

4) Explore campus even if you don’t go to UC Davis. Some of the coolest spots in town are open to everyone.

5) Go to the Farmers Market hungry.

6) Try a restaurant you’ve never heard of. Some of the best food in Davis is hiding in the most unexpected places.

7) Don’t sleep on East Davis, West Davis, South Davis, or North Davis. Most people rarely leave their side of town and miss a lot because of it.

8) If you see an event happening, stop by. Davis is one of those places where something small can end up being the highlight of your week.

9) Take advantage of Davis being in the middle of everything. Napa, Tahoe, San Francisco, Bodega Bay, Yosemite, and Sacramento are all easy trips.

10) Visit the Arboretum in different seasons. It feels like a different place throughout the year.

11) Take pictures of the turkeys. They are always doing something interesting.

12) Support local whenever you can. Davis wouldn’t feel like Davis without its small businesses.

13) If you hear about a hidden gem, go sooner rather than later. The best spots never stay secret for long.

14) Watch at least one sunset from the top floor of a campus parking structure. Trust us on that one.

The biggest tip, though?

Don’t rush your opinion of Davis. It’s one of those places that gets better the more you explore.

picture number 4 was our favorite....

Maybe you can teach an old dog new tricks or just Davis has it like that. 😤

It’s actually a miracle this thing still works. 😂

This is your sign to head downtown 🤩

Summer might be our favorite time of year in Davis.

The student crowds head home, parking gets easier, and everything slows down just enough to make downtown feel completely different.

It’s the perfect time to grab a cold treat, eat on a patio, wander through your favorite local shops, or just take a walk without feeling like you’re weaving through a crowd.

The local businesses are still here, the sunsets are still incredible, and the slower pace honestly makes you appreciate Davis in a whole new way.

If you’ve been meaning to spend more time downtown, now’s the time.

One of the coolest FREE activities at UC Davis 🤯

If you haven’t been over to the Bohart Museum of Entomology, you are seriously missing out! Without a doubt, one of the best hidden gems on campus.

Inside you’ll find everything from giant beetles and stick insects to tarantulas, butterflies, and insects from all over the world. Some are part of the museum’s research collection and some are very much alive and staring back at you.

What makes it so fun is that it feels equally interesting whether you’re an insect expert or someone who just wandered in because it sounded different.

The museum was founded in 1946 and is home to one of the largest insect collections in North America. Comparable to some huge museums! Somehow lots of residents have never been or haven’t even heard of it before.

The best part? It’s free to visit during public hours.
