This day 57 years ago, police raided a gay bar called the Stonewall Inn in Greenwich Village, New York City.

In reaction to the police’s continued violent behavior towards the LGBTQ+ community — spontaneous demonstrations, lead by two Black and Latinx transWOMEN, rose up around the area to become what was to be known as the iconic .

Their bravery is widely considered to constitute the most important event leading to the gay (LGBTQ+) liberation movement and the modern fight for LGBTQ+ rights in the United States of America .

Tickets are flying and seating is limited for Pride Day at the California State Fair on July 25!

For June's Round Up at the Registers, we’re supporting the Davis Phoenix Coalition, a nonprofit that exists to engage and unite the Davis community in eliminating intolerance, preventing hate, and promoting a broader civic culture that embraces all aspects of our diverse community. Their goals include expanding outreach and visibility efforts, creating an LGBTQ+ resource hub, and establishing a dedicated community space in Davis that provides support, services, and programs for those affected by intolerance and their allies.
