Honor Lock and Key

Every now and then I run into something on the job that genuinely surprises me. A customer told me their car could be started with a regular metal key even though it was supposed to require a programmed chip key, and I honestly didn’t believe it at first. Turns out they were telling the truth—the vehicle had been modified to bypass the immobilizer, which isn’t something I see very often. In this video, you’ll see me programming a remote for this unique setup. Just another reminder that you never know what you’ll run into in the locksmith world.

This is exactly why I always recommend having a steering wheel lock or a kill switch on any Chrysler, Jeep, or Dodge that uses push-to-start or a Fobik system (the plastic key with the plastic ignition).

In the wrong hands, these vehicles are extremely easy to steal. To show you just how vulnerable they can be, it took me about 40 seconds to program a brand-new key to this vehicle—even with the alarm blaring the whole time.
