Such a beautiful sentiment

After her shifts at the jail downtown, Corrections Officer Mary Malcom drives past the Dollar General on Kings Road to get home. That’s the store where a man killed three people out of hate two and a half years ago. Our community came together and built a memorial outside the store for the three people who lost their lives: Angela Carr (52), Anolt Laguerre Jr. (19), and Jerrald Gallion (29).

Last week, Corrections Officer Malcom noticed the memorial had been destroyed. She took it upon herself to rebuild what had been lost with the help of her husband and 9 children.

Corrections Officer Malcom told us she had never built a memorial before, but she listened to what her heart pulled her to do.

We are incredibly proud of Corrections Officer Malcom’s heart for her community, not just in this moment, but in every moment she serves Jacksonville.
