July is National Minority Mental Health Awareness Month. Follow us for more insights on Muslim mental health.

ISPU research finds that young adult Muslims (18-29) report lower levels of mental well-being compared to older Muslims. These differences are not isolated; they reflect broader patterns that can be shaped by social environment, life stage, and access to care.

Given that American Muslims are among the most ethnically and racially diverse faith communities in the United States, these findings highlight the need for culturally responsive mental health services and supports that are accessible, affirming, and attentive to the needs within communities.

Mosques are often viewed solely as places of worship, but their role in American communities extends far beyond that.

According to ISPU's 2020 U.S. Mosque Survey, 66% of mosques provide food assistance to their broader communities, 76% participate in interfaith education, and more than half have hosted voter registration efforts.

Yet many still face significant challenges: 35% report resistance when seeking to build, expand, or relocate, and 86% of mosque leaders express concern for the safety and security of their congregants.
