Students were giving the choice of modeling a Geneva mechanism, crank mechanism, quick return mechanism, or a leveling device for their final exam in Draft-236 solid modeling today.

Here’s the catch and the challenge… all they were given was a picture of the mechanism. The rest of the design, sizes, tolerances are up to their own engineering finesse and creativity.

Last Friday, Richland Community College’s Engineering Technology program hosted a hands-on learning demo featuring the Keyence VL 3D Scanner Coordinate Measuring Machine. A big thank you to Keyence sales representative Keagan Brenna for bringing this innovative technology to campus and walking our students through its powerful capabilities.
This advanced 3D scanning system is transforming the way industries approach inspection, quality control, reverse engineering, and geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T). These are critical processes behind the manufacturing of many of the products we rely on every day.
Opportunities like this give our students real-world exposure to the tools and technologies shaping modern manufacturing—bridging the gap between classroom learning and industry application.
