Our Bilingual Legal Advocate Stephanie joined People Over Profit’s World Cup Resource center today to share resources about labor rights and extreme heat safety in Atlanta! ⚽️

We’re grateful to be part of this important project and to stand by immigrant workers who carry out some of the most vital work behind every major event in the city. While players are guaranteed water breaks on the field, thousands of employers fail to make sure their workers are properly hydrated and healthy. Workers deserve labor protections and safety guaranteed! The fight of our communities against abuse and exploitation is one that we all have a part to play in.

In a newly-released Op-Ed for The Atlanta Journal-Constitution, staff from Sur Legal Collaborative and CDMigrante teamed up to send a clear message—a system where migrant and immigrant worker communities are not protected is not a system that Georgians can stand behind the expansion of in good conscience.

We’d like to thank Sur Staff Attorney Alessandra Stevens as well as Julia Solórzano, Legal and Policy Director at CDMigrante, for leading the charge to articulate why our work leaves us with concerns about worker exploitation and abuse under the H-2A farmworker visa program.

Workers have a right to know about the hazards they face on the job 📢🚨

Yet every day, workers across the country are cutting, grinding, and polishing engineered stone countertops without being told that the dust they breathe can cause a deadly and preventable disease called accelerated silicosis.

Some workers have needed lung transplants in their 30s. Cases are emerging in more and more states, making this an urgent national worker health issue.

Today, National COSH is releasing a new bilingual Worker Alert: Silica Dust Can Kill to help workers recognize the dangers of silica exposure and take steps to protect themselves.

The Worker Alert includes:
