Yellowjacket nest at Clyde Shepherd
A visitor reported a yellow jacket nest on the back trail by the creek at Clyde Shepherd. They said it was about halfway around the trail, near where there are boards on the path to walk on when it gets muddy.
If you walk your dog in the Preserve, please clean up after them!
The reported incident of a visitor getting bitten by Asian needle ants seems to be related to the ants feeding on dog waste that was left on a trail. The ants attacked the visitor after the visitor inadvertently stepped in the dog waste.
Please do your part to keep the Preserve clean and other visitors safe!
We have had a report of Asian needle ants on the trail along the backside of the pond. They can give a very painful sting and allergic reaction for some people.
Please take precautions like wearing closed toe shoes and long pants.
In the coming days, we will investigate and try to limit their spread.
