Improving Natural Areas
Prairie Pedal is an annual bicycle ride fundraiser for the Macon County Conservation Foundation. Held annually on the last Sunday of September, this event raises funds for the conservation of natural areas and wildlife in Macon County, Illinois.
Since it began in 2008, local businesses, generous individuals and families, and dedicated cyclists who ride in the event have funded dozens of projects on hundreds of acres of Macon County prairies, wetlands, and forests. Each of the projects they’ve funded have improved wildlife habitat, and helped protect our air and drinking water quality. Together, these generous Prairie Pedal supporters have:
- Funded paid, full-time internships on the Macon County Conservation District’s Natural Resources team
- Restored open savanna habitats at Sand Creek and Friends Creek Conservation Areas, for the benefit of songbirds and other wildlife
