Good afternoon. I’ve been paying attention to some social media posts regarding the upcoming Mayoral election in Decatur. I applaud anyone who pays attention and stays involved in the direction of our great City. However...after some recent posts, I am inclined to comment.

I take some exception to the insinuation that the decisions over the past few years are solely the responsibility of the Mayor. There is not a budget that has been passed, project that has been adopted or dime that has been spent that was not approved (typically unanimously) by members of the City Council.

I also think it important to understand that the path we have been following during the past few years is the very path laid out through countless hours of research and effort by many volunteers. It is the same path laid out during numerous community forums open to the public. It is the very path adopted as a strategic plan by members of the City Council during this administration and the past administration.

Mayor Meyer has proven time and again that he is for Decatur. He is implementing the plans as developed by citizens and adopted by Council. So, if you disagree with the direction of Decatur or some decisions on how funds have been spent, let’s not pretend this is a one man show. I’ll reiterate - There is not a budget that has been passed or dime that has been spent without the approval of members of the City Council - again fairly unanimously. There isn’t a project that has been initiated without the input of tireless volunteers.

I am thankful for Mayor Meyer’s commitment to making Decatur a greater place to live, work, and raise a family. I look forward to his leadership over the next 4 years as well.
