🌊Water Play🌊

It is HOT!!! If your child loves their water table, going swimming, the splash pad, or even playing in the bath tub, you can easily support their speech, language, literacy, and executive functioning skills!

Try these water play tips next time they play in water 🏊💦

💦 Play Simon Says. Have your child follow simple directions for actions such as splashing, kicking, pouring the water. Take turns being "Simon"
💦 Have your child pack their swim bag next time you head out to the pool or splash pad. Don't tell them what to pack, see what they can come up with on their own. Then, go through each item and it's function. See if they can identify *without you telling them directly* what they have missed. Help them if they cannot figure out what they missed. Try not to pressure or "quiz" them, but rather make it fun.
💦 Talk about signage: The name of the pool, where to enter, where the restroom/locker room is.
💦 Sing songs, such as "It's Raining It's Pouring" or "Splish Splash I Was Taking a Bath" while they play.

🔆Summer Tip of the Week🔆
4th of July Activities

🇺🇸Scavenger Hunt: Have your child(ren) spot these items at your 4th party, or local fireworks show. American Flag, Ice Cream, Red White & Blue, Sparklers, Stars. First one to spot them and describe them wins!

🇺🇸Fork Fireworks: Get out some paper and paint. Have your child make fireworks using their fork in the paint.

🇺🇸Firework Bottles: Fill a clear plastic bottle with water, food coloring, oil, glitter, stars, etc. Screw the cap on (add a tack of glue or tape the top), Tie with a patriotic ribbon. Shake & enjoy.

🇺🇸Spoon Races: Have your children line up (can do teams if you have a large number). Give each a child a plastic spoon. Have a bowl of patriotic candies, pom poms, etc. Have each child scoop 1 item onto their spoon and carry it to a designated area and dump onto a plate/into a cup. Whoever has the most in their designated area after a certain amount of time wins.

🇺🇸Patriotic Play Doh: Get out Play Doh and some patriotic items for an organizer. Have your child make fireworks, flags, stars, etc. out of the items provided. Or, let them make their own creations and use their imagination.

🔆Summer Tip of the Week🔆
4th of July Snacks

🇺🇸Red White & Blue Charcuterie Board: Blueberries, cheese, pepperoni's, cauliflower, strawberries, blackberries, watermelon, marshmallows.

🇺🇸Fruit Pizza: Cookie crust (or individual cookies), cream cheese frosting, and fruit.

🇺🇸Snack Mix: Pretzels, cheese, blueberries & strawberries.

🇺🇸Veggie Fireworks: Cut veggies into small or varying sizes pieces. Have your child use dip to get them to stick together or onto the plate and make different colored and shaped fireworks. Add meat, cheese, or something crunchy for some extra fun.

🇺🇸Chips & Dip: Blue corn tortilla chips, white queso, & salsa.

🌟Remember, artificial dyes cause a whole host of challenges for children
During this hot, out-of-routine, sleep interrupted, fun holiday time, you may already have your hands full 😳
Adding dyes to the mix may make things worse. Try to stick with artificial dye free sprinkles, candy, and food dyes when making your patriotic colored foods & snacks!

Park Review🛝

How many times have your kids asked to go to the park today 🫣

Next time you go, turn it into an opportunity to build some vocabulary, conversational, and executive functioning skills!

🛝 Ask them to go on a scavenger hunt to find the name of the park (if they don't already know it) - help them search for logical places they may find it
🛝 Have them describe their 3 favorite things at the park
🛝 On the way home, have them compare & contrast it to another park (or other outside activity)
🛝 Have them describe 3 ways the park could be improved
