The storm brought a lot of damage, but the Brantley Law flag is still standing. A small reminder that even in the middle of chaos, we keep moving forward.
On a more serious note, our thoughts and prayers are with everyone affected by the tornado. Our Springtown location will be closed for the foreseeable future as we work through the damage, but all meetings will be moved to our Decatur office.
Ms. Shannon will be reaching out soon regarding any existing appointments.
If anyone in our community needs help, please don’t hesitate to reach out. Moments like this remind us that we are stronger when we come together.

⭐ EXPERT CONTRIBUTOR SPOTLIGHT ⭐
Brantley Law
Do you have a plan in place to protect your family, or are you relying on a will alone?
In this month’s Wise Living, Brantley Law explains why a living trust can be one of the most powerful tools for protecting your assets and your loved ones. While wills have their place, a revocable living trust offers added privacy, flexibility, and peace of mind.
With a living trust, your assets can be transferred smoothly without the delays, costs, and stress of probate. That means your family can avoid court involvement and gain quicker access to what they need during an already difficult time.
A trust also allows you to maintain control of your assets during your lifetime, while ensuring your wishes are carried out if you become unable to manage your affairs. It provides clear direction, protects vulnerable beneficiaries, and keeps your financial matters private.
Estate planning is not just about documents, it is about making life easier for the people you love.
Do not leave your family’s future to chance. Take steps now to create a plan that brings clarity and security.

Why “just add them as a beneficiary” can blow up an otherwise solid plan.
It is common advice. Name your spouse as the primary beneficiary and your children as contingent beneficiaries. Simple. Clean. Efficient. Except when it is not.
Here is the issue that often gets overlooked. What happens if your children are minors at the time the funds are payable?
In Texas, the court will not allow significant assets to pass directly to minor children. Instead, your family is forced into a court supervised guardianship or a court supervised trust. That process is time consuming, restrictive, and expensive. Legal fees alone can run into the thousands, and ongoing court oversight continues until your child reaches adulthood.
There is a better way.
By using a testamentary trust or a living trust as the beneficiary, those funds can flow into a structure that you control in advance. You choose who manages the money, how it is invested, and when distributions are made for your child’s benefit.
This approach keeps the court out of the picture, preserves assets for your children, and gives you the control you expect and deserve.
Estate planning is not about checking boxes. It is about anticipating real world consequences and avoiding preventable problems before they arise.

What happens if someone dies in Texas without an estate plan?
The court steps in. Families face delays, extra costs, and uncertainty about who is in charge. In many cases, loved ones are stuck waiting months or even years before anything can move forward.
This is avoidable.
A simple estate plan can spare your family from court involvement, conflict, and unnecessary expense.
If you have been meaning to get your plan in place, now is the time. Call Brantley Law at 817-901-6288 or email us at [email protected] to schedule a consultation and protect the people you care about most.
