“As we approach Mother’s Day, I’ve found myself reflecting on this brave new mother in Zambia and the people who have shown up at the right place and the right time in my own life.”
Amanda Bolster, Director of Communications and Development at the Partnership for International Vaccine Initiatives (PIVI), shares about her time in Zambia, where The Task Force for Global Health’s PIVI program, and its partners like Ciheb-Zambia, are supporting a dual vaccination campaign to protect health workers against influenza and hepatitis B.
While visiting a rural health center, Amanda and her colleagues encountered a mother in active labor with life-threatening complications. With the nearest ambulance an hour away, PIVI’s partners and the on-site nurses stepped in to assist with the delivery, saving mother and baby.
