Governor Healy signs the Affordable Homes Act. Key policy initiatives include the approval of accessory dwelling units by right on single family lots. These living quarters can be attached or detached from the main home and can be for oersonal use or rental Home owners no longer need a variance or special permit as long as they comply with local building codes.

I recently built an ADU for my parents.
At the time, I did need to get a special permit which was an arduous and expensive process. This change is meant to address the housing the shortage. The Healy administration estimates between 8,000- 10,000 ADU’s will be built across the state over the next 5 years.
