The Delavan-Darien Comets Varsity Baseball team are moving on to the Regional Championship after edging Lake Mills 1-0 in a regional semifinal nailbiter on Tuesday.

In a game dominated by pitching and defense, Joel Janssen and Jacob Huff combined for a five-hit shutout, with Janssen earning the win after allowing no runs over 6⅓ innings. Huff came in relief with one out in the top of the 7th with runners on second and third and was able to get back to back strike outs to record the save.

The Comets broke through in the sixth inning when Kevin O’Grady delivered a sacrifice fly to score the game’s lone run. Huff also led the offense with a perfect 2-for-2 performance at the plate, while the defense played exceptionally well.

With the hard-fought victory over the L-Cats, Delavan-Darien advances to the Regional Championship and will travel to Jefferson for a 4:30 p.m. matchup with Jefferson, with a sectional berth on the line.
