Welcome to another week in the Dementia Universe:

This week and the last can be particular problematic, given that often the person with Dementia does not know that it is cold. Their body may react as if cold, shivering for example, but the brain will not acknowledge the fact. This makes the person susceptible to hypothermia. If you have someone who wanders, this can be even more problematic. There are things that can be done! Door Locks high, double keyed deadbolts, door alarms, floor mat alarms, etc. What works best for you?

Want to discuss this more?

Join us at one of two meetings this week. The first is in Hotchkiss at the town hall, beginning at 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday (2nd and 4th Weds.). The second is Thursday at CROSSROADS Assisted Living, also at 1:30. Yes, the flu outbreak has subsided and we are back in the Activity’s Room.

Welcome to Another Week in the Dementia Universe!

This one brings on the New Year and the end of the Holidays. We hope yours was good!

Due to the timing of these Christmas and New Years happening on Thursdays, and the fact that the 31st is the fifth Wednesday in December, we enter another week without a meeting.

Personally (Jess Speaking), I could have used a meeting. Despite my knowledge and experience, I too have times when I forget the guidelines. Knowing that I must forgive myself, it helps to talk with others about what happened (but not this week).

Want to know more?

Join us in January for the first meeting of the year. January 7 we will be in Cedaredge at The Lab (Main and 3rd) and on January 8 at Crossroads Assisted Living in Delta. Both meetings start at 1:30 p.m.

Let others who are in similar situations provide you with Guidance and Understanding!
