Our 2024 Whisky of the Year? The Port Charlotte 18 year from !
When you've got a bar full of 300 whiskies, but you keep coming back to one bottle, you know it's a winner. Take that one step further and I actively had to stop drinking this one earlier in the year just to save some for our Best In Class 2024 episode where we ultimately finished it off.
This whisky is stunning. Everything about it is perfection from the age, barrel profile, proof, ppm, and flavors throughout the drinking experience. I always say it's like liquid lemon drop candies tossed into a campfire, but that's a gross over simplification as there's always more unique notes to find on the nose, palate, and finish. There's deep complexity here with unparalleled layers of rich flavors to find and enjoy.
We're proud to announce the Port Charlotte 18 as our whisky of the year and encourage you to check out all the wonderful products that Bruichladdich has made and continues to make.
Cheers!

We're thrilled to continue our Best In Class 2024 and announce our Irish Whiskey of the Year: the Virgin White Oak Cask!
Yes, let's address the elephant in the room, this isnt an Irish Whiskey because it's not made in Ireland. It's made in Arvada Colorado, but and his wife Meagan set out to make their own Single Pot Still American Whiskey inspired by everything that makes a great Irish Whiskey:
"With family history rooted in Irish ancestry, the couple returned to Ireland every year and knew that single pot still whiskey would forever be a part of their story. Knowing that Single Pot Still Whiskey was not yet available in the US they set out to create the first Single Pot Still distillery outside of Ireland. They wanted to bring this style of whiskey to America and imbue it with the nation's terroir while honoring Gaelic distilling traditions, the immigrant soul, and the pioneering spirit of the American people."
This particular expression showcases classic Irish Whiskey notes like a "big ol' scoop of vanilla ice cream", butterscotch, and toffee, all while adding rich and robust layers of red fruits from the virgin oak influence. It's a stunning whiskey that fans of Irish Whiskey will love.
My bottle is gone now which is sad, but I know where to get more! Also, side note, this might be my favorite whiskey photo I've ever taken. Checkout the awesome things Talnua is doing!
Cheers! 🥃

I always say you can learn a lot about a whiskey by simply reading the label and this is particularly true with the incredible collaboration between and . It reads, "straight rye whiskey finished in Amrut Indian malt whisky barrels blended with straight bourbon whiskey." What they've done is taken two Indiana ryes and blended them together, then finished them in Amrut barrels for 18 months (full year and a half). Then once that is done, they back blended in 3 well aged Kentucky bourbons. The result is not only a stunning and robust whiskey, but a bottle that reflects the core pillars of the distillery that made it, collaboration (working with Amrut and other industry players), innovation (the first American Whiskey finished in Indian malt barrels), and transparency as they show you everything that goes into the bottle right on the label.
Well if you wanna hear more, this is the 3rd whiskey we drink and review on the most recent episode of All Things Whiskey Podcast! Tune in using the link in our bio or find it anywhere you can find a podcast (usually Apple Podcasts and Spotify).
Cheers!
