Oral shingles — Herpes zoster involving the trigeminal nerve (cranial nerve V), with mandibular and/or maxillary branch involvement.
Reactivation of the varicella-zoster virus in the trigeminal ganglion can cause unilateral pain affecting the jaw, gums, tongue, and face.

Symptoms may include localized inflammation, sensitivity, and nerve-related pain that follows the path of the affected nerve.

In some cases, complications such as prolonged nerve pain or secondary infection can occur. In more severe cases, the virus can extend to nearby cranial structures, leading to lasting nerve damage and serious neurological involvement.
