I’m in and out of the gym within an hour because I stick to only 3-5 key exercises per workout with my low volume training method ⏰
Ever notice that every workout on Instagram is written as sets of 4 or 5 and has 10 different exercises in it? A session like this will take two hours to complete and leave you absolutely exhausted
But is it the most ideal way to achieve max muscle growth? By doing lots of volume and lots of exercises per session? The answer is probably not.
In fact, doing this much work can have the opposite effect of what you want. The more exercises you do, the more volume you do. The more volume in a session means the more muscle damage you accumulate which means more you have to recover from 🥴
If you are lifting with intention and taking yourself to or close to failure on the last set of an exercise, all the extra volume becomes unnecessary, especially when you understand that less is more and quality>quantity is crucial in hypertrophy training 💪🏻
Muscle growth happens by the process of protein synthesis 🧬 Protein synthesis is the process that happens when amino acids link with your muscle cells to build protein chains, which can repair tissue and build new muscle. Protein synthesis can be signaled by stimulating reps that place high tension on your muscles, which happens if you lift close or to failure.
While protein synthesis can be triggered with high tension sets, protein synthesis does not increase with the more sets you do, and in fact, just creates more muscle damage that we must recover from.
Meaning, doing more volume by doing a ton of different exercises per session is actually slowing your ability to get gains!
Focus on taking your last set to failure to achieve stimulating reps, and prioritizing recovery.
Recovery is the main focus. It allows you to build yourself up and become stronger. More volume takes away from recovery as it makes it harder.
Ditch the long training sessions that are slowing you down!
