When it’s half done

Here I cobbled up a quick mini rocket-Lorena stove w/ & for ’s upcoming cob workshop at the . There’s gonna be a lot of folks comin through for the experience and we thought it’d be nice to have another stove around for making hot water and learning about cooking with wood AND how easily you make one of these for yourselves…A stove that burns clean while cleaning up deadfall, and is easily disassembled once it’s no longer in use. I love making stoves out of scrap and used materials and is exactly what we did here. The main body took an hour or so to put together and is made from an assortment of old bricks and cinder blocks gathered from around the property. We then spent another couple hours building a little scrap granite countertop and at that point we decided to plaster the dang thing with the site soil.

This was an aside to erecting the round pole roof structure that Sage, , , myself and others are building in anticipation for the workshop!

I had the pleasure of spending a week here at All You Need (with my mom no less!) en route to the annual MHA gathering at Wild Acres in North Carolina. The land here at AYN is absolutely stunning and is being tended so carefully and lovingly and skillfully by the land tenders who live here. My only regret is having not spend more time aimlessly wandering around the forests. There is an epic lichen meadow that meanders through the property the likes of which I’ve never seen before. And of course it’s home to the gopher tortoises which are the keystone species of this ecosystem.

Sage’s workshop is not to be missed! He is incredibly talented and refreshingly alternative in his approach to building and holding space for learning. Plus, the site is quite literally feet away from a deep pond excellent for swimming.
Plus (the best band in the whole world) is playing with others on the 23rd! And there will be movement workshops and delicious food!!
