L’École, Denver’s home for French Language Immersive Education

L’École de Denver, a private French immersion academy, has been teaching and maintaining the language of French Denverites for the last few years right here in the Five Points area. L’École has quickly become a home away from home for many immigrants from French-speaking countries but also those who want to get their young kids started with a language at a young age. Like many great things, L’École started during the Pandemic as the brainchild of Angela Strange, who sought to close this gap in education in Denver. Exposure to language at a young age is key to language adoption as you get older. Strange started the school in her home, and it has grown to a full-service middle school for grades 5th, 6th, and 7th and a preschool for ages 2.5-4.5. L’École is part of a natural pipeline for french speaking students to the French American School, which services K-5. Both schools are looking to continue to grow to the eighth grade but need steady enrollment of french proficient students to add a grade every year. Preschoolers don’t need to be proficient to start as they gain mastery through normal play and early learning while French is woven into the instruction. Although the L’École school is a private school, the preschool program is Universal Preschool, DDP, and CCAP eligible. L'École de Denver is planning on developing its PreK program, collaborating with museums and theaters to make the education more rounded.

The school benefits from the strong community of committed and active parents and the Five Points Area. Administrative Director Arina Popova works to enhance the experience of the students at L’École with frequent trips to Denver’s Museums, Art Centers, and Park amenities. L’École also seeks to expand opportunities for students to visit France and other french speaking countries as well as organize exchanges with french students.
